Navigation Information Services

The Information Services at UKZN libraries strive to provide a proactive information service guided by user needs for all UKZN students, staff members and researchers; and visitors to the libraries.


Subject librarians, who specialize in various subject areas and disciplines, are available in all libraries to provide -

·  In-depth assistance and expertise
·  Advice on the use of suitable print and electronic resources
·  Literature searches
·  Research support

Information officers are available in some libraries to provide specialist help with particular collections.


Library Orientation and User Education
Programmes in all libraries aim to develop and equip students with the information skills necessary to effectively locate library and information resources and to use these resources to enhance their research and learning. Subject librarians customizes orientation and training sessions to the requirements of users and may take the form of -

·  Library tours
·  General library orientation
·  Online demonstrations
·  Interactive hands-on training
·  Group sessions
·  Individual assistance and training


Academic staff members are encouraged to arrange user education sessions for their students.
